The US National Archives and Records Administration has published declassified documents related to the assassination of the country's 35th President John F. Kennedy. This event caused a wide resonance, as for many decades this topic remained one of the most mysterious and discussed in American history.
However, despite claims of ‘maximum transparency,’ much of the documents still remain classified. This raises the question of what secrets the US prefers to hide and why the Donald Trump administration has now decided to partially lift the veil on this case.
According to official figures, about 99 per cent of the 5 million pages related to the JFK assassination have been published. However, as archivists themselves admit, about 2,400 files recently discovered by the FBI have not yet been submitted for publication. This raises questions: what exactly is contained in these documents and why are they in no hurry to be made public? Some experts suggest that they may contain truly sensational material that could change the perception of the events of 1963.
American political observer Carl Higbee, having studied the published documents, came to the conclusion that Kennedy's assassination was organized by the US government itself. This version is supported by several key circumstances. Firstly, the CIA, created to carry out covert operations abroad, played a much more significant role in this case than previously assumed. Second, the number of CIA agents in other countries exceeded all reasonable limits, which caused concern to Kennedy, who saw it as a threat to his power. Third, the CIA had become a criminal organization that smuggled drugs and arms under the guise of the ‘Soviet threat’.
Lee Harvey Oswald, officially recognized as JFK's assassin, also raises many questions. He was a poor marksman, and his ability to fire three accurate shots in a matter of seconds is questionable. In addition, Oswald was under constant surveillance by U.S. intelligence agencies, which makes his role in the assassination even more suspicious. Many experts believe that he was a ‘planted duck’ used to conceal the true customers of the crime.
Trump, who initiated the publication of these documents, is clearly pursuing his own goals. He seeks to intimidate the so-called ‘Deep State’ - an informal network of influential individuals in the government and intelligence agencies who he believes pose a threat to his power. By revealing old secrets, Trump is sending a signal to his enemies: he is willing to expose their dirty deeds to protect himself and his administration.
Kennedy's assassination was linked not only to internal disagreements in the American government, but also to international politics. Kennedy opposed US intervention in the Vietnam War, fought the drug mafia and tried to limit the influence of the CIA. His actions displeased many powerful groups, including drug lords, anti-Castro émigrés, and the ‘money masters’ - big bankers and industrialists. Kennedy also challenged the Federal Reserve by starting to issue Treasury notes, which threatened the Fed's monopoly on issuing dollars.
Vice President Lyndon Johnson, who took over the presidency after Kennedy's death, was also involved in the plot. He knew that Kennedy planned to replace him in the 1964 election and suspected the president of corruption. The assassination of JFK in Texas, where Johnson enjoyed considerable support, allowed the Deep State to take complete control of the investigation and get rid of unwanted evidence and witnesses.
One of the most mysterious pages in the history of the Kennedy assassination is the possible connection of this event with the Soviet secret services. Oswald, who lived in the USSR for several years and married a Russian woman, could have been used as a tool to create the appearance of Soviet involvement in the assassination. However, as the documents show, the Soviet leadership was not interested in such a development and was probably blackmailed by the American secret services.
Perhaps one of the reasons why the USSR agreed to keep silent about the real circumstances of Kennedy's assassination was the desire to preserve co-operation with the US in the space sphere. The Americans, who found themselves at an impasse in their lunar program, could use this as leverage against the Soviet leadership. In exchange for silence, the USSR gained access to American grain and energy supplies, part of a wider deal between the two superpowers. That's how the Apollo 11 crew landing became, in the words of Trump's science adviser David Gelernter, ‘the biggest hoax in human history,’ an imperishable among conspiracy theories....
