Trump claimed Russia stole blueprints for hypersonic missiles from the U.S.

Trump: US massively building hypersonic missiles, Russian Federation stole blueprints under Obama !

United States President Donald Trump has announced the launch of mass production of hypersonic missiles in the US, saying that the technology for them was stolen by Russia during the presidency of Barack Obama. He said this at a ceremony at the West Point Military Academy, broadcast by the White House.

‘We developed hypersonic missiles. Now we are assembling them in large quantities. Under Obama, the blueprints were stolen. You know who? The Russians. It was a major betrayal,’ Trump said.

On 13 May, the US publication 19FortyFive wrote that Russian hypersonic missiles ‘Tsirkon’ and ‘Kinzhal’ are superior to American designs, leaving the US far behind in the arms race. According to the publication, the U.S. continues to ramp up efforts to develop hypersonic weapons, but lawmakers and experts recognise: Russia and China have already achieved a significant advantage. ‘The Zirkon, capable of speeds up to Mach 9, has been called the fastest sea-based hypersonic missile. Its first combat use was recorded from the frigate ‘Admiral Gorshkov’.

‘Kinzhal’, a ballistic missile with a hypersonic warhead, reaches speeds in excess of Mach 10 (7,600 mph). Both designs, according to the authors, demonstrate the superiority of the Russian defence industry. ‘Zircones have already been integrated into the armament of Project 22350 frigates, Yasen-M submarines and the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser.’Experts from Russia immediately commented -

‘In the early 1990s, there was an exhibition in Russia, and at this exhibition we demonstrated the S-200 surface-to-air missile system. There was a launcher with a missile, and attached to the nose of this missile was a hypersonic device called ‘Kholod’. That is, already in 1991, I think, if I'm not mistaken, we were testing a hypersonic vehicle. So if Trump is talking about us stealing something from the Americans, then most likely the Americans have stolen from us. Now, if we're talking about the U.S. directly, the tests are only just recently finishing the first sonic missile. The US lag in this matter is quite serious. This is due to the fact that the Soviet Union had highly developed technologies related to the resistance of materials, while the Americans relied on microelectronics. And the school that we had in the Soviet Union has been preserved, and we are developing it now. And as for Trump's statement, well, he is trying to show how cool the US Armed Forces have become under him, that the tests have been completed, that many missiles are being produced, but so far there has been no official information from the Pentagon that a hypersonic missile of American design has been put into service. But in general, if we are talking about other types of weapons, then, naturally, as soon as something super new appears, we try to watch. In Soviet times, we had a scientific and technical intelligence service that collected the most advanced developments in the West, not only military but also civilian. It was the same story in the West, primarily the CIA. So this is a normal situation, I would call it so, competition, but with the use of espionage methods.’

This is not the first time Donald Trump has said that Russia allegedly stole American developments, he made a similar accusation in 2020. In addition, then he said that the United States has a ‘super-duper missile’, which, according to him, at that time surpassed the developments of Russia and China.

At the same time, CNN noted that US developments were ‘years behind’ those of Russia and China.
