Ivan Milat is Australia's most notorious serial killer

Ivan Milat killed tourists who came to Australia to admire the beautiful nature. In 1994, when he was 50 years old, he was arrested and tried for 7 murders. However, for more than 30 years his case remains a huge painful mystery.

Almost everyone is convinced - this man killed dozens, maybe even hundreds of people. Moreover, he did not act alone at all - he was helped by some of his brothers.

Ivan Milat was born into a family of a Croatian migrant and an Australian woman. They had a huge believing family - 14 children. It is said that Ivan Milat's father was a violent alcoholic. And the children had free access to guns from an early age. They amused themselves by practicing shooting.

Even as a teenager, Ivan Milat drew attention to himself - he abused animals. At 17, he was sent to a penal colony for theft. Later, he and his brothers were caught in robberies more than once.

As is often the case, police had a chance to stop Ivan Milat from becoming a brutal serial killer if he had been properly punished in the beginning. When the man was 27 years old, he attacked two 18-year-old girls who were hitchhiking. One of them was raped, but they managed to eventually escape ...

Ivan Milat was quickly identified by police at the time and was about to be tried. But the man escaped to New Zealand with the help of his brothers and left his shoes on a cliff popular with suicide victims.

Police found Ivan Milat a couple of years later in Australia. He came to the attention of the police several more times. But he remained at large until his 50th birthday.

Meanwhile, dozens of people were disappearing in the vicinity of Belanglo Forest. In the early 1990s, several bodies of tourists were found. It was clear from their condition that they had not just been robbed and killed, but had been subjected to some brutal rituals typical of serial killers.

It took the police several years to arrest Ivan Milat. The main basis of his guilt was the testimony of a man who managed to escape from him. He was given 7 life sentences for 7 murdered people.

Ivan Milat did not admit his guilt until the very end and demanded a review of the case. He is now dead.

But the Australian public does not believe that the police have the right to put an end to the case of Ivan Milat. The public is convinced that he did not act alone, as evidenced by the different styles of crime and the unprecedented physical strength required to hold down two victims at the same time. In addition, many other people whose cases remain unsolved have disappeared and been murdered over the decades in the area where Ivan Milat lived. Their relatives are convinced that with proper investigation it would be quite realistic to prove the guilt of Ivan Milat. And possibly some of his family members as well.
