‘I've seen people in spacesuits in Mars photos’. The story of a former photo specialist at NASA

Gabriela Clement said that she worked for NASA for more than 30 years. She was a specialist in working with photographs. The woman claimed that she processed images from a wide variety of missions. In 2015, Gabriela retired due to age and health problems. She could no longer fully perform the amount of work that was required.

The former space agency employee said that she was part of the working group that was formed for the Apollo missions, but the team had established itself so well that it remained an important ‘brick’ in NASA. Two years after her retirement, a woman told an amazing story that happened to her while she was working:

‘Every day NASA receives hundreds of photos from various vehicles. I worked with images of the Moon, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, various satellites and so on. The primary task was to eliminate images with defects. After this stage came the second. At this stage, the dubplates were eliminated.

The third check concerned the so-called unwanted photos. First of all, these were pictures that could be of interest to the military and special services. So a trusted person would come to me, and together we would select images for them.

One day I was brought a large batch of Martian photographs. And at the first stage I saw something unusual - they were people in spacesuits. I called up my supervisor and showed him a series of pictures with objects that looked like people in the distance. After that I made sure that we were talking about Martian photographs.

When I looked at my boss, I saw him get agitated, and then he closed the folder and took it somewhere without saying a word. I was afraid that I had witnessed something extraordinary. You know what they do to witnesses in such cases, don't you?

Nobody explained anything to me, they just gave me another job. Probably there was a mistake and I was given pictures that neither I nor anyone else should have seen at all. After a week or so, I decided to ask my boss what it was, because after that incident I couldn't sleep well. Knowing how connected the agency was, my house could have been broken into at any minute.

He said there was no cause for concern and I should just carry on with my work. But if you were shown pictures of people in spacesuits in the middle of a Martian landscape, how would you feel about it? I developed a kind of phobia. When new files were brought to me, I was afraid to open them, lest I see something forbidden again. Fortunately, nothing like that ever happened again.

According to the information that has come to light, after the interview with Gabriela, journalists allegedly approached NASA directly. Comments from the public relations spokesperson were rather vague:

‘Humans on Mars? Are you kidding me? There can't be humans on Mars. It's impossible from any point of view. Especially from a technological one. As long as the algorithm for delivering people to the Red Planet has not been worked out, we have no moral right to risk their lives.’

Further questions on the subject were also answered, and very unspecific:

‘If someone saw something, it does not mean that it was really happening. I wasn't around at the time, I can't say what kind of pictures we are talking about. Perhaps they were photos from our training ground, where we are restoring near Martian conditions. There is no need to look for sensation where there is none’.

Yes, NASA actually has several test sites with near lunar and Martian conditions. Potential astronauts are trained there. But then why wasn't this explained to the employee who saw the photos? Didn't think it was necessary? Or because in reality, the Mars missions have already taken place? I don't think so. This is even harder to believe than the version of a NASA official.
